Malaysia

In March 2002, we took a 3 week trip to Asia.  We visited Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.  While in Singapore, we made a 7 day trip to Malaysia. See Asia 2002 for more trip details.

We flew from Singapore to the island of Penang, where we spent three nights. We bought plane tickets for a next day flight from Singapore to Penang, a Malaysian island.  The tickets were about $120 each, one way. Penang is a very British area, even though the British left many years ago.  We rented a taxi for a tour of the island for $8.00 per hour.

We then flew from Penang to the capital city of Kuala Lumphur, where we spent three nights.

Kuala Lumphur is the capital and very clean and modern.  The other "twin towers" are in Kuala Lumphur, but since 9/11, the towers are closed to tourists.

We returned to Singapore on the train.  First class tickets for the 8 hour train trip cost about $8.00 each
